HG 1/100 #02 Aegis Gundam

The HG 1/100 #02 Aegis Gundam is a 1/100 scale plastic model kit from the Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series, produced by BANDAI HOBBY. Released in February 2003, this kit allows builders to recreate the transformable mobile suit piloted by Athrun Zala. It is a snap-fit assembly, meaning no glue is required for construction, and features pre-colored parts. For a more detailed appearance, panel-lining with Gundam Markers or Mr. Color paints is recommended, and a topcoat can be applied to protect any stickers.

Key features of this model kit include its impressive ability to fully transform into two Mobile Armor modes: Attack and Cruise, without the need for part swapping. The kit boasts a unique internal structure designed specifically to facilitate this transformation. Despite being an older release, it offers decent articulation with a ball-and-socket joint for the head, peg-and-socket shoulder joints that can raise upwards, rotating upper arms, and elbows that bend up to 90 degrees. The legs feature double-jointed knee parts for a wider range of movement, and the ankles swivel on a ball-and-socket joint. Both the front and side skirt armors are movable to prevent interference with leg articulation.

The kit comes with a variety of accessories to equip the Aegis Gundam. The left hand is swappable, and the Beam Rifle can be held by either of the two weapon-holding hands. The shield can be mounted onto any of the forearms and can rotate on its adapter pegs. For storage in Mobile Armor mode, both the Beam Rifle and Shield can be attached to the waist booster armor. Beam Saber effect parts can also be optionally mounted onto the forearms. The part separation is considered good for its time, with only minimal stickers needed for the eyes and horn sensors.
